ELQ-598 is a endochin-like quinolone compound with potent antibabesial activity with IC50 of 37 nM against B. duncani in human erythrocytes, the prodrug of ELQ-596.
ELQ-598 display no cytotoxity against human cell lines: HeLa, HepG2, HEK293, and HCT116 (IC50>10 uM).
ELQ-598 (daily dose, 10 mg/kg from DPI 3–7) eliminates B. duncani in vivo, protects mice from B. duncani lethal infection mouse model.
ELQ-598 + atovaquone effectively eliminate B. microti and B. duncani infections in mice.
