WAY 163909 is a highly potent, subtype-selective agonist of 5-HT2C receptor with Ki of 10.5 nM, >20-fold selectivity over 5-HT2A and 5-HT2B receptor subtypes (IC50=212 and 485 nM, respectively).
WAY 163909 stimulates the mobilization of intracellular calcium in CHO cells stably expressing the human 5-HT2C with EC50 of 8 nM.
WAY 163909 produces a dose-dependent reduction in food intake in rat (ED50=2.93 mg/kg), also exhibits preclinical antipsychotic-like activity in vivo.
