WAY-169916 is an orally active pathway-selective estrogen receptor (ER) ligand, inhibiting NF-kB transcriptional activity (IC50=93 nM), but is devoid of conventional estrogenic activity.
WAY-169916 does not promote the classic actions of estrogens such as stimulation of uterine proliferation or ER-mediated gene expression.
WAY-169916 is a potent antiinflammatory agent, as demonstrated in the HLA-B27 transgenic rat model of inflammatory bowel disease.
WAY-169916 inhibits nuclear factor-kappa B transcriptional activity in models of rheumatoid arthritis.
