TRO 40303 is a novel cardioprotective compound that delays mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) opening, binds specifically to TSPO at the cholesterol site (Ki=150 nM).
TRO 40303 has no effect on the calcium retention capacity (CRC) of isolated mitochondria.
TRO 40303 causes significant reduction in reactive oxygen species production and subsequent calcium overload.
TRO 40303 reduces infarct size when administered before reperfusion in in vivo model.
