Sembragiline (RO4602522, RG1577, EVT 302) is a potent, selective, orally available monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) inhibitor with IC50 of 5.9 nM, >600-fold selectivity over MAO-A.
Sembragiline displays no affinity for more than 100 different receptors, enzymes and ion channels.
Sembragiline protects against neuronal loss and reduces both ROS formation and reactive astrogliosis in transgenic animal model conditionally overexpressing MAO-B in astroglia, exhibits potential for treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other neurodegenerative disorders.
