SZ0232 is a small molecule mPGES-2 (microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-2) inhibitor with IC50 of <1 uM, exhibits beneficial effects on modulating β-cell function and glucose metabolism both in vitro and in vivo.
SZ0232 effectively reduced PGE2 production and increase insulin release in vitro, increased insulin secretion induced by SZ0232 only occurred in response to high-glucose stimulation in
isolated islets, while having no effect on basal insulin secretion.
SZ0232 also exhibited a protective effect on the development of diabetes with better glucose tolerance and β-cell function compared to placebo treatment being noted in vivo.
SZ0232 protects against β-cell dysfunction and diabetes, similar to mPGES-2 deletion.
