SBI-0498 (SBI-0730498) is a small molecule inhibitor of coronaviruses translation initiation complex 4F (eIF4F), disrupts eIF4F complex formation and inhibits coronavirus RNA and protein levels.
SBI-0498 inhibits human coronavirus OC43 (HCoV-OC43; OC43) with minimal cell toxicity.
SBI-0498 (0-10 uM) is more potent than remdesivir (Cat# PC-60313) in decreasing the proportion of infected cells when assessed 48 h post treatment, significantly reduces viral RNA levels.
SBI-0498 can dissociate mRNAs from the eIF4F complex.
SBI-0498 reverses gene expression signatures induced upon HCoV-OC43 infection.
