RCGD 423 (RCGD423) is a small molecule gp130 modulator that prevents articular cartilage degeneration and promotes repair both in vitro and in vivo.
RCGD 423 increases proliferation while reducing apoptosis and hypertrophic responses in adult chondrocytes in vitro, elicits different signalling in chondrocytes than IL-6 family cytokines and can inhibit their catabolic effects.
RCGD 423 greatly reduces chondrocyte hypertrophy, loss and degeneration while increasing chondrocyte proliferation in rat partial meniscectomy model, improves cartilage healing in rat full-thickness osteochondral defect model.
