EP055 (EP-055) is a small molecule that targets epididymal protease inhibitor (EPPIN) on the surface of sperm and inhibits motility (IC50=199.5 uM, CASA assay using human sperm), binds to the C-terminal domain of EPPIN.
EP055 inhibits a-EAb from binding EPPIN with an IC50 of 1121 uM.
EP055 inhibits sperm motility in Macaca mulatta males, demonstrating a potentially strong contraceptive effect.
The sperm surface protein EPPIN is a reasonable non-hormonal contraceptive target.
