Chicago Sky Blue 6B (Direct Blue 1) is a counterstain for background autofluorescence in fluorescence and immunofluorescence histochemistry, also is the first small molecule prion protein (PrP) ligand capable of inhibiting Aβ binding.
Chicago Sky Blue 6B inhibits Aβ binding and reduce prion levels was established in cell-based assays.
Chicago Sky Blue 6B also is a competitive VGLUT inhibitor without affecting plasma membrane transporters, shows antinociceptive effects in vivo.
Chicago Sky Blue 6B also is an allosteric inhibitor of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) with IC50 of 0.81 uM.
