Carmofur (HCFU) is a pyrimidine analogue with antineoplastic activity, Carmofur is a highly potent acid ceramidase (ASAH1) inhibitor with IC50 of 29 nM (rat recombinant ASAH1).
Carmofur inhibits acid ceramidase (ASAH1) activity and elevates tissue ceramide levels, both in vitro and in vivo.
Carmofur act synergistically with standard antitumoral drugs to prevent cancer cell proliferation.
Carmofur is highly effective and specifically target glioblastoma GSCs.
