CAIS-1 is a small molecule inhibitor of chromosome congression, inhibits chromosome congression at low concentrations and spindle microtubule formation at high concentrations.
CAIS-1 effectively induces cell cycle arrest during mitosis in a concentration-dependent manner (IC50=4.6 uM) in HeLa cells.
CAIS-1 induces apoptotic cell death after prolonged mitotic arrest.
CAIS-1 inhibits tubulin polymerization and binding to colchicine but does not have a significant inhibitory effect on mitotic kinases.
